Golfers - Most Important Part of Golf Swing
This will be the best tip you will ever receive. However, it may be the hardest to follow. It has taken me a lot of years and numerous tips to learn the most important one of all. This is something that every pro golfer is aware of. He, or she has done it for so long, however, that they probably never think of it. It just comes natural for them.
Get into a swing position without a ball. Take your normal swing and listen for the "Swish". This sound comes at the moment your swing reaches maximum speed. For 99 out of 100 amateur golfers, that moment is just before impact. That means that you have released the most powerful part of your swing BEFORE you reached the ball. Therefore, you have lost the ability to hit the ball 20-40 more yards.
The "Swish" must be AFTER impact position, i.e. on the side of the ball that is closest to the intended target. What good does it do to reach maximum swing speed after impact, you ask? Well, the ball is still riding on the face of the club and that sudden burst of extra speed propels the ball faster than it had been traveling since impact.
Look at the photo to your right. There, or a fraction sooner is where you should hear the swish. Everyone has a different point of release. You have heard of "late release"? This is what that refers to.
Stand in your living room, or in the back yard and practice this until it comes natural. The hardest part is continuing to keep your hands cocked through the swing. Generally, golfers want to release those hands before the ball to give the ball a hard smack. That is incorrect. By keeping the hands cocked through the impact zone, you are bringing the face of the club square to the ball and driving it along the intended line to the target and suddenly, your speed increases and propels the ball toward the target.
Please understand that the sudden increase of speed is not a jerky motion, but stays within the guidelines of your personal tempo. Practice and more practice until it becomes natural for you. You will be amazed at the sweet feeling of impact and the extra distance.
I hope it works for you. Hit 'em long & straight.
